Teaching and Learning

Lumen Christi College offers a broad curriculum from Year 7 through to Year 12, addressing learning in spiritual, academic, cultural, social and sporting domains.

Underpinned by Curriculum Framework and Australian Curriculum which set out the knowledge, understandings, skills, values and attitudes that students are expected to acquire, students journey from a clear focus in Numeracy and Literacy plus exposure in a diverse range of educational experiences across nine learning areas in Year 7 to a suite of courses in Years 11 and 12 that accommodate their future life aspirations.

While we are blessed with outstanding resources plus the unlimited access to technology through the laptop program, fundamental to our teaching and learning program is the establishment of quality relationships between our staff and students. Staff are entrusted to create a demanding, respectful and positive learning environment where the journey of every student is in focus. An environment where the most effective teaching strategies and resources are employed hand in hand with the caring and supportive attention only a quality teacher can provide.

A quality education is critical. A learning experience that is challenging, positive and gives every child the opportunity to shine is essential. The Teaching and Learning program at Lumen Christi College is dedicated to providing both quality education and learning experience for each child.

Lower School

Current curriculum developments are led by the requirements of new Australian Curriculum. In Years 7-10 Religious Education, Mathematics, English, Humanities & Social Sciences, Science and Health and Physical Education, are the compulsory core subjects. Alongside these Year 7 students sample the breadth of electives available to them from Year 8 onwards.

Upper School

Our Year 11 and 12 Curriculum is based on the Western Australian Curriculum Council Courses of Study.

Lumen Christi also provides access to a range of Vocational Education and Training courses designed to give students practical knowledge and skills.

Selected College courses have industry certificates embedded within them. Some students also undertake placements within the workplace environment.

The excellent Career Services on offer at Lumen ensure that each student has the opportunity to find their logical next step as they transition out of the College.

Learning Technology

Across the curriculum learning technologies play an ever increasing role in the classroom. Teaching staff and students have embraced the introduction of one to one laptops which have created many new and exciting ways of learning.
