Specialist Dance is an out-of-school program that gives students a fantastic chance to shine on stage. Program participants enjoy the rigours of an exacting discipline and have the opportunity to perform at festivals and College events.
This dance endeavour is a beautiful acknowledgement of God's presence in our community. Students choreograph dances of worship to be performed on special occasions including at the Catholic Performing Arts Festival and Church functions. Lumen Christi College Liturgical Dance Group has received many acknowledgements and awards.
Includes Breakdance, Hip Hop, Popping and more. This very popular and successful after-school program is an opportunity for the boys to demonstrate their skill in strength and movement.
Our dancers have the opportunity to audition for College Productions which include major productions such as musicals, and minor productions.
An opportunity for our Curriculum-based classes and our after-school programs to platform their energy, skill and enthusiasm in a night of great entertainment.
Students show off their talents both on-stage and off-stage. Students engage in this performance with dance or through stage management, lighting, sound and set design.
Competitions, Church Functions and Festivals
Students in Specialist and/or Liturgical Dance participate in the Catholic Performing Arts Festival where they dance against other Catholic Schools. These students will also perform at various functions for the Church.
Excursions & Incursions
Dance students are able to view professional productions at venues around the city. These excursions allow students to be exposed to professional productions, see future career options within the dance industry in Australia and think critically about the choreography and performances. Excursions have included Buzz Dance Theatre, Steps Youth Dance Company, STRUT Dance Company and QL2.
Incursions are also a large part of Dance at Lumen Christi. Students from Years 10-12 take part in various workshops with specialist teachers throughout the school year in order to explore new choreography and different styles.
