Divas Delight

by Kylie Yacopetti Aug 26, 2016

Lumen Students from Years 7-12 absolutely shone in their opening performance of the 2016 Dance Showcase, ‘Divas, Stars and Legends’, for local Primary School children. Students from Xavier Catholic School (Years 5 & 6), Good Shepherd (Years 3 & 4), St Munchin’s (Years 4, 5 & 6) and St Emilie’s (Year 3) were delighted by the lights, costumes, music and dance skills of the performers from Lumen Christi College.

The young students watching nearly jumped out of their chairs at the dynamic dance and light show for the TNT - AC/DC performance by Year 9s and could hardly contain their excitement over Levi Windus-Hart and William Day’s Hip Hop Duo to Justin Timberlake’s ‘Cant Stop the Feeling’, showing the children that dancing is cool for guys too.

They enjoyed a few slow numbers and then went bananas for the Year 10 Dance Class’ performance to ‘Chandelier’, clearly some big Sia fans were in the audience.

I was particularly impressed with some of the innovative choreography this year. Numbers that were extremely well done and faithful to the artist, were performances such as the Year 11s with ‘Proud Mary’, Dance Club with ‘Scream’ and the Year 12s with ‘Vogue’.

There were also some beautiful Lyrical performances and in particular, I shed a tear during Tiarn and Karrie Turton's duo to ‘Say Something’ by A Great Big World feat Christina Aguilera.

It was an eclectic mix of the old and new, from Motown classics to more recent artists and the appreciative audience seemed to enjoy it all giving a standing ovation, singing and clapping along during the finale.

All shows sold out for this year’s Dance Showcase with the final performance tonight (Friday, 26 August).
