Term 2, Week 2 2023

Welcome to our Week 4 Bulletin. Over the past two weeks, we have enjoyed an abundance of college and community activities such as the Aladdin Production, Mother’s Day Breakfast, Year 10 Emmaus Retreat, Year 11 Cape to Cape Outdoor Education Hiking Excursion and numerous incursions.

It was great to see so many mothers and mother figures join us for our annual Mothers’ Day Breakfast. With over 300 people attending, the breakfast was a resounding success. It was wonderful to see students, staff and parents participating in the event, and contributing to our Mothers’ Day video. I hope that everyone who attended enjoyed the breakfast.

We also had the pleasure of experiencing the excellent Aladdin Production, which was a great chance for our talented students to showcase their skills and talents to the community. The students and staff worked tirelessly to create an amazing production, and we are thankful for the efforts and hard work the Performing Arts team put into creating such a high-quality production. What a spectacular show it was!

The Year 10 Emmaus Retreat has also taken place during the past 2 weeks. During this retreat, students spent two days cooperating and participating in activities led by the Youth Mission Team. They had the opportunity to listen to others and engage in group discussions, which highlighted the importance of relationships.

We have had several incursions and excursions since our last bulletin which I hope you enjoy reading about in the articles that follow.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff, students and parents involved in these activities for making these experiences such a success.

Term 3 began for students on Thursday with an ANZAC Liturgy and Whole School Assembly during Seminar time.
The Liturgy was led by Mr Josh Norris, Campbell House Coordinator and serving member of the Australian Army Reserve along with the College’s Mission and Service Captain, Dylan Nilo and College Captains, Joey Morton, Harshita Khunda and Alfred Ruzunga. Ably led by College Vice Captain, Bianca Patio, students who participate in Airforce Cadets outside the College formed a Catafalque Party for the Liturgy. As a College we reflected on the theme of ‘Peace’ and prayed for peace around the world and to be peacemakers in our own families and communities.
In the second part of the Assembly we recognised the achievements of students in Term One in Swimming, Cross Country, ACC Cricket (Diversity) and the Solar Car Challenge and were treated to a sneak peak from the upcoming College musical, Aladdin Jnr.

Izabella Stuart Karate Tournament

Izzy has been doing karate for almost 6 years now and is currently at the rank of 1st kyu brown belt which is one step away from black belt. She is also in the WA state karate team and is the current WA state champion and is also two time WA state champion, she leaves on the 28th march to represent Australia against the world in the Karate academy of Japan International tournament in Sri Lanka on the 2nd of April. This is Izzy's first international event and she has been training hard to show case her skills to the world and see how she competes at the highest level.

After some tough training session in Sri Lanka before the tournament she was well prepared going in. With a field of 20+ competitors from around the world, Izabella managed to win in kata and place 3rd in kumite. Izabella was also awarded the best female international player of the tournament. Such a great achievement and proving she has what it takes to compete at the highest level. She has made some amazing friends along the way and sure it is something she will never forget. Izabella will now be of the the Asia championships in June and the world championships in 2024

Vinnies Youth Mother's Day Stall

Term two is a busy time for the Vinnies Youth students with the support of the College Community.

The Vinnies Youth are running for a reason in the HBF fun run on Sunday May 21. We are fundraising towards the Vinnies Mental Health awareness program. So far we have raised $568, if you are interested in supporting this worthy cause you can make a donation HERE. Students are also able to collect a chocolate fundraising box to sell.
Winter appeal house competition has been launched. Please send in any useable jumpers and blankets for the Vinnies winter appeal. Each house is challenged to build a tower taller than the tallest student in the school. The winning house will earn Cartoni cup points. So clean out the closets and send them in!

Thursday Week 2 the Vinnies held the first Mothers Day stall selling items to the Year 7’s to gift to their Mothers and Mother figures.

Students will also be participating in cooking after school for the Kelmscott Soup kitchen this term on the following afternoons: Week 2 Wednesday 3 May, Week 4 Wednesday 17 May, Week 6 Wednesday 31 May, Week 8 Wednesday 14 June.
