Term 3, Week 10 2023

Welcome to the final bulletin for Term 3. What an eventful fortnight it has been!

Over the past 2 weeks, there have been numerous activities taking place at the College. Events such as the College Art Exhibition, ACC Athletics, R U Ok? Day, the Year 10 Business Market Day, and our final whole school assembly for the term, which took place yesterday. Our students have had many opportunities to finish Term 3 with a range of rich experiences.

It was pleasing to see so many members of our community attend the Annual College Art Exhibition, which took place last week. The exhibition was a great success, with family and friends coming together to support our students and enjoy the wonderful work that they had produced.

Last week we celebrated Wellbeing Week. Throughout the week there were lots of activities focusing on the importance of looking after our mental health and practicing self-care.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish our Year 12 students all the very best as they complete their last full day at the College today. To those preparing for exams over the next few weeks, we wish you all the very best. We look forward to welcoming all our Year 12s back to the College on October 20th to celebrate graduation.

I hope you enjoy reading more about the events of the past 2 weeks in this bulletin.

I would like to wish all our students and families an enjoyable and restful school holidays.

Year 12 Last Day

College Art Exhibition

The annual Art Exhibition had its official opening on Wednesday, 13 September with over 300 pieces of student work. The highlight was the comprehensive displays organised by the Year 12 Art students. As part of their assessment, they were required to participate in the preparation of their own exhibition space. Their selections reflected the work completed this year which started with a printmaking project. Their major theme was prompted by a Term 1 visit to the studios at North Metro TAFE and the WA Museum Boola Bardip. Boola Bardip means, ‘many stories’. The students were required to engage with items on display in the museum to develop their own narrative.

The evening of the official opening started with meander around the PAC foyer spaces to view the artworks while listening to live music organised by the music department. To make the evening more special, refreshments were served by our Year 11 Art students. The exhibition visitors were encouraged to enter the main auditorium to watch the speeches and presentation of awards. Our guest judge was Miss Shanice Stacey who spent several hours choosing winning artworks. To entertain the audience, the Year 11 Certificate Dance students performed a lively and memorable tap routine.

Year 10 Business Bites Market Day stalls

Year 10 Business Bites Market Day stalls

During Week 8, the Year 10 Business Bites classes converted the Jubilee gardens gazebo into pop up business stalls. Creating a buying frenzy, students were able to purchase many different food items and beverages from the stalls. The Business students were required to perform market research, plan, advertise, source stock, order equipment and supply all the items required for their business including sourcing capital. It is a wonderful hands-on experience for the students to have a ‘bite’ of a business venture.

If you want to know what it is like to run a small business venture come down to B block and chat to the students in the HaSS Business electives!

Year 12 Chemistry ATAR

Year 12 Chemistry ATAR students had a unique experience at Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. They had the opportunity to explore many fascinating facts about amino acids and proteins which are vital functions to our human body. They also engaged in a real life professional lab test to create a protein by learning various techniques including gel electrophoresis, protein separation and analysis. It was a valuable and inspiring experience for all of our Year 12 students.

The day was a success, and student feedback was that the information received was valuable. We were also fortunate to have the WA Police Rangers come out and chat with Year 11 and 12 students interested in joining the Police Force.
