Week Two, Term Two 2024

From the Principal

Welcome to the first Lumen Bulletin of Term Two. We commenced this term with our Year 8-12 Parent Teacher Student interviews last week. It was pleasing to see the number of parents engaged in conversations with teaching staff regarding their child’s learning. If you were unable to attend the interviews but would like to discuss your child’s learning, you are welcome to contact your child's teacher via email or by telephoning the College on 9394 9300 during school hours. This service is always available to parents and such communication is encouraged by the College.

Last week I had the pleasure of watching our Year 11 and 12 Drama Production, DAGS. I am always amazed at the talent of our Arts performers and the calibre of shows that they put together each and every year. Well done to everyone who participated in this show; you were true Lights of Creativity.

Earlier this week we held a whole school assembly, which included an ANZAC ceremony. Photos of this ceremony can be found in this Bulletin. We also celebrated our Interhouse Swimming and Cross Country Carnival champions by presenting them with their personalised medals, as well as recognised the Champion House of both carnivals; Tangney House. Well done to all of our medal recipients.

The College’s annual Mothers’ Day breakfast will take place in just under two weeks’ time on Thursday, 9 May from 7:30-8:45am. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our ‘Lumen mums’ and mother-figures, and I look forward to sharing in this special event with you. More details about this event will be shared next week.

God Bless.

Year 11 & 12 Drama Production - DAGS

On Thursday, 18 April, the stage came alive as Year 11 and 12 students presented a captivating performance of "Dags" by Debra Oswald. The auditorium buzzed with anticipation as the talented cast and crew showcased their hard work and dedication, transporting the audience into the world of the play.

Under the guidance of their passionate teachers, the students brought the characters to life with authenticity and flair, eliciting laughter and thunderous applause from the audience. From the eating on stage to the scenes of comedic brilliance, every aspect of the production was executed with precision and passion.

The success of "Dags" is a testament to the talent and dedication of the students involved, as well as the unwavering support of their drama teacher, Miss Natalie Cox. It not only showcased the artistic prowess of the Year 11 and 12 students but also served as a reminder of the power of storytelling to inspire and entertain. As the curtains closed on this remarkable production, it left behind a legacy of creativity, camaraderie, and excellence. Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing "Dags” to life, and may the memories of this experience continue to shine brightly on you.

Recipe of the Month - April

This week in Food, Science and Technology our Year 11 students made ANZAC Biscuits to commemorate ANZAC Day. It is thought that ANZAC biscuits were sent to soldiers abroad because the ingredients do not spoil easily, and the biscuits kept well during transportation. Our Year 11 students loved them for their buttery caramel flavour, the easiness of the recipe as well as the history of ANZAC Day.

Would you like to have a go at making ANZAC Biscuits at home? Why not give it a try using our recipe.

ANZAC Biscuits

Ingredients:

1 c plain flour

2 T golden syrup
½ t bicarbonate of soda
